Four Norwalk spring sports teams competed on Monday, including second-place conference meet finishes by both Warrior golf teams and a second-place showing by the boys track team at Pella.

Bush/Mills 3rd at District Tennis

The Norwalk boys tennis team was also in action, traveling to West Des Moines Valley for a Class 2A District Singles & Doubles Tournament. The doubles team of Adrian Bush and Austin Mills had the Warriors’ best finish, matching their seed by placing third. Bush and Mills started the day with a three-set victory, then lost in the semifinals before winning their third-place match 6-2, 6-3. They are an alternate for the state tournament later this month.

Norwalk’s other district competitors included the doubles team of Drew Chambers and Kaden Tomkins and singles players Hayden Steele and Braylon Stockwell. Steele, the number-four seed, lost in the quarterfinals following a first-round bye. Stockwell went 1-1 with a loss in the quarterfinals, as did the duo of Chambers and Tomkins. The Warriors will travel to Dowling Catholic on Friday for 2A Substate Team competition. They will face Des Moines Roosevelt at 9:00 a.m., with the winner taking on Dowling.

Golf teams 2nd at Little Hawkeye meets

The Norwalk girls golf team won a battle for second place in the Little Hawkeye Conference Tournament at Beaver Creek near Grimes. Indianola claimed the title with a 372 and the Warriors paced a group of six teams scoring between 417 and 428. Ruby Hoch led Norwalk individually, placing seventh with a round of 95. Calissa O’Connor, Ava Garvey and Lydia Krueger each placed in the top 20 with rounds of 106, 107 and 109, respectively. The Warrior girls’ next meet is Monday, May 15, at the Ballard Invitational.

Playing in their second and final meet of the spring season, the Norwalk boys golf team also placed second in the LHC Tourney at Oskaloosa’s Edmundson Golf Course. Indianola once again earned the championship with a 294, followed by the Warriors with a 303. Braden Nicholson and Ryan Jermier placed sixth and seventh for Norwalk, both carding a 74. Owen Lux finished 10th with a 77 and Kasey Ludlow was 12th with a 78.

Boys Track 2nd at Dutch Invite

The Norwalk boys track team won three events and placed second to Pella by a 158-128 margin in the Dutch Invitational. Warrior gold medals included Dillon Ranck in the 100-meter dash, Tony Anania in the open 800 and the shuttle hurdle relay team of Daniel Webster, Daniel Roche, Isaac Sutcliffe and Braeden Carlson. Anania’s winning 800 time was a personal-best 1:59.48 and the shuttle quartet improved their season-best to 1:01.4. Norwalk placed second in two more events as Skyler Olson clocked a PR of 51.82 in the 400 and teamed with Jacey Hutson, Landon Hochstein and Ranck for a season-best 4×100 relay time of 43.59. Norwalk will host a Class 4A Coed State Qualifying Meet on Thursday, starting at 4:00 p.m.
