Norwalk’s two first-half goals stood up the rest of the way Tuesday night as the Warrior girls soccer team picked up a 2-nil road win over Indianola.

Sophomore Braelyn Clark scored first for Norwalk, notching her 14th goal of the year off a steal. Junior Reese Trebilcock later added her second goal of the season on a penalty kick. The Warriors continued to control possession in the second half but came up empty on several more shots on goal.

Trebilcock and fellow junior Kenzie Hodge tell KNIA-KRLS Sports that the Warriors are a young team overall that has made big strides despite some key injuries. Trebilcock says that she tries to stay positive when mentoring some of the team’s varsity newcomers.

“It’s about constructive criticism, but also giving positivity,” she said. “Our energy tanks – we talk about e-tanks a lot. If you give one positive thing then it’s going to help throughout the rest of the season, so it’s better than just yelling at them.”

The Class 2A 13th-ranked Warriors improved to 9-6 overall and finished 5-2 in Little Hawkeye Conference play. They will end their regular season on Friday, hosting a triangular against 2A No. 10 Lewis Central and 2A No. 1 Waverly-Shell Rock. The first game starts at 4:00 p.m.

The Indianola girls dropped below the .500 mark at 6-7 overall and 2-3 in the Little Hawkeye. The Indians will host Perry on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
