The 20th Annual Knoxville Panther Scholarship Foundation Award Ceremony will be held tonight at 7 p.m. in the Knoxville Performing Arts Center. The event will be live streamed. Donors are not required to be at this event; however, they are welcome to attend.
Sixty-two members of this year’s graduating class who applied for a scholarship from the Knoxville Panther Scholarship Foundation will receive scholarships from the Foundation tonight. Community scholarships for graduating seniors will also be awarded.
Eighty-four members of the KHS graduating classes of 2020, 2021 and 2022 who applied for scholarships from the Foundation will also be awarded scholarships this year.
In the Foundation’s first year in 2004, 46 scholarships were awarded to members of the KHS class of 2004 for a total amount of $18,500. Twenty years later, due to the generosity of local businesses, alumni, families and individuals who believe in the education of the youth, this year the donors will be awarding a total of 275 scholarships through the Foundation for a total award amount of $196,000.
Board President Curt Froyen tells KNIA/KRLS News they will have a special presentation honoring Don and Margaret Long, “Since 2014 Don and Margaret have provided 296 Knoxville High School students with a second year scholarship.” They have been donating to the program since the very first year of the scholarship program.
