The Pleasantville varsity track teams traveled to Van Meter to compete in the Class 2A State Track Qualifiers Thursday. The top two place winners in each event qualify for State.
The Pleasantville boys’ team has two automatic qualifiers with second place performances. Finishing second and moving on to state were Ross Stephens in the 110 meter hurdles at 15.63 seconds. Also qualifying for state was the Shuttle Hurdle team of Trevor Nickel, Trent Jolly, Caleb Cook and Stephens with a run of 1:03.52.
The Pleasantville boys team scored 41.5 points to finish ninth and the girls were tenth with 33 team points.
Coach Aaron Fichter and Tyler Baethke believe their best chances of getting some at-large state bids, the girls 4×200 team of Carly Gripp, Lillian Mason, Alex Blackford and Lauren Furnal was fifth with a time of 1:51.11 and Sophia Mason in the100 hurdles at 16.21 in fifth place at the meet should get in. Ryder Thill for the boys in the 1600 meters ran 4:45.45 and should get in as well. They should know the at-large bids later today.
