For the third consecutive year, the Knoxville Boys Golf Squad is headed to the class 3A State Meet, and it was not easy on Monday as the Panthers finished runner-up to Williamsburg shooting a team score of 324. Carson Uitermarkt, Evan Smith and Kail Arkema all three led the Panthers with 79s. Noah Keefer scored an 87, Beau Leisure had a 91 and Brady Roozeboom scored a 95. Uitermarkt, Smith and Arkema all told KNIA/KRLS Sports getting to state was the first part, and now go for their goal of the top team is next.
Carson: “Postseason is all about moving on. We didn’t post the score we wanted to, but we know we can do better.”
Evan: “We shot 329 earlier this year, and nobody was happy about that. We come back and shoot five shots better and we’re even more upset about it, so that goes to show you how confident we are that we can post a good score.”
Kail: “This comes down to the fact that we have confidence in each other. We’ve been under pressure before and that helped us out a lot today.”
Knoxville heads to the State Meet in Ames next Monday and Tuesday. Listen for a full interview with Uitermarkt, Smith and Arkema on this week’s Radio Sports Page Wednesday at 6:00 and Thursday at 10:00 on KNIA/KRLS.
