For the third season in a row, the Class 1A girls tennis state bid out of this region of Iowa comes down to crosstown foes. On Eagle Lane today, the #9 Pella Christian girls tennis team hopes to secure a spot in the State Tournament against the Class 1A #7 ranked Pella Dutch.
The Eagles enter today’s Class 1A Region 4 Championship Match off of a hectic Saturday that included multiple delays and a location change, but ultimately ended in 5-0 sweeps of Centerville and Clarke. Meanwhile, the Dutch cruised to a 5-0 sweep against Chariton and a 5-1 win over Oskaloosa in their first round and semifinal matches. Pella Christian and Pella met on the same courts just 14 days ago, with the Dutch claiming that match on May 2nd 7-4. The Eagles advanced to state in 2021, while the Dutch were able to nab a quarterfinals bid one year ago.
The Tulip City Showdown for a spot in the Class 1A State Team Tournament begins this afternoon at 1 p.m.
