More regional action takes place today for Knoxville Sports Teams after a day off from competition on Tuesday. Girls Golf heads to Edmundson in Oskaloosa for the class 3A State Qualifier. The Panthers have been steadily improving throughout the season and shot their best team score for nine holes on Friday with a 201, led by Faith Roozeboom’s career low of 40. Roozeboom tells KNIA/KRLS Sports she is cautiously optimistic about her chances for a first state meet berth, one she missed out on by just three shots last year.
Roozeboom: “Honestly, I would say confident yes. I would say I’m pretty confident in my abilities, but not really secure that I’m going to make it to State.”
Roozeboom hopes to become the first girls golf qualifier since Amy Sullivan made the State Meet in 2021.
The Knoxville Girls Soccer Squad embarks on the class 1A regional tonight heading to a team the Panthers saw just a few weeks ago. Knoxville will play West Central Valley, the Panthers lost to on May 6th by a 2-0 count. Knoxville has turned around a slow start going 7-2 after a 1-4 start to the season under 1st year Coach Bethany Johnson. The Panthers have been led all season by the scoring Hanna Linsley and Janae Baker who have 13 and 11 goals respectively. Other girls have also got into the scoring act as Charlye Willis and Peyton Horn are among the players with multiple goals this season. Coach Johnson says Horn and the others have started to step up in scoring and that takes a lot of the pressure off of Linsley and Baker.
Johnson: “Peyton Horn hasn’t played since she was eight or nine. She’s always in the right place, and she tells me I don’t know where I’m running and I say you’re running to the right place, that’s where I need you to be.”
The winner gets either Williamsburg or Des Moines Christian in the semi-finals on Tuesday.
