The Indianola City Council held a work session on Monday, discussing a timeline for a bond referendum for the upcoming City Hall/Public Safety Building Project, which will likely take place in the fall of 2024. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News the bond referendums have to take place in the fall elections, and while November of 2024 seems like a long way away, it was better to delay the vote than rush the project.

“We need the time to be able to work with those professionals. If we rush into it, then we have to have a lot of contingency planned into the project, and that is dollars that we can refine and get tighter and have more solid information out to the public before it goes out to the ballot. I think the taxpayers deserve us to be patient and methodical in our approach, so we have a really good plan that is affordable and phased in such a way that our community can digest this new project and provide services for our community for generations to come.”
