
Pella Christian Boys Golf Sits in 6th After First Round of State
Competing at the State Meet for the first time since 2001, the Class 2A #7 ranked Pella Christian boys golf team ended the first round of the tournament in sixth place with a team score of 326.
Eliot Menninga and Isaiah Breems lead the Eagles after the first 18 holes, each posting an 80 and finishing the first round in a four-way tie for 26th. Cooper Spronk finished his day in a three-way tie for 30th with an 81, while Dane Geetings is in a four-way tie for 37th with an 85. Deacon Branderhorst and Landon Fransman are a part of a three-way tie for 54th after the first round, each posting a 92 respectively.

Eagles Boys Soccer Advance to Substate Final with Win over Central Lee
After a first-round bye, the Class 1A #14 ranked and top-seeded Pella Christian boys soccer team opened Class 1A Substate 6 action with a dominant 6-0 semifinal win over Central Lee Monday night.
The Eagles, who tied their second highest scoring output of the season, spread out the offense with three goals in each half. Ethan Van Arendonk netted two goals in the first half, while Jack Fancher punctuated the scoring in the first 40 minutes with a penalty kick goal. Fancher then opened up the scoring in the second half, followed by a goal from Trae Van Maanen. Keegan Juffer put the exclamation mark on the dominant win with his first goal of season with 21 seconds remaining in the game.
Pella Christian improved to 7-8 on the season, and they’ll host second-seeded West Branch for a spot in the State Tournament on Wednesday night.

Pella Christian Softball and Baseball Squads Fall to Grinnell
The Pella Christian softball team dropped their season opener against Grinnell 9-4 Monday night, while the Eagles baseball struggled down the stretch against the Tigers in 10-0 loss.
On the softball diamond, Pella Chrisitan got the scoring started after Emri Agre was hit by a pitch and scored on an Emma Eekhoff single. Grinnell responded with a four-run second inning, but the Eagles pulled-back within one after a two-run third frame. The Tigers added to their lead with three runs in the top of the fourth and two runs in the fifth inning and never looked back. Pella Christian added their fourth run in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough as they fell to 0-1 on the season and in the Little Hawkeye Conference.
The Eagles and Grinnell were deadlocked at zeros through the first two innings on the baseball field on Eagle Lane, before the Tigers scored the game’s first run in the top of the third on a bases loaded walk. A two-run homer in the top of the fourth pushed Grinnell’s lead to 3-0, before a sixth-inning single pushed the Eagles deficit to 4-0. The game got away from Pella Chrisitan in the seventh inning, as Grinnell added six runs on two hits, four walks, and two errors. With the loss, the Eagles dropped to 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
The Pella Christian baseball team will try to bounce back today at Principal Park in Des Moines against Moravia at 5 p.m., while the Eagles softball team is next in action Wednesday at home against Pleasantville.

Eagles Girls Soccer Faces Panorama in Regional Semifinals Tonight
Two of 1A’s highest-powered offenses clash on the pitch tonight, as #14 ranked Pella Christian travels to #13 ranked Panorama for the Class 1A Region 3 semifinals tonight.
Ranking #2 and #3 among 1A schools, Panorama holds the slim advantage over the Eagles in goals on the season 82-80. Pella Christian and Panorama are tied for the fourth most assists in 1A, each dishing out 49 on the season. Joslyn Terpstra leads in the Eagles in both categories and ranks third individually among Class 1A in goals with 37 and first in assists with 23. Morgan Crees leads Panorama in goals and is second in 1A with 38, while Mia Waddle leads the Panthers and is second in assists in the class with 19. Pella Christian head coach Mike Buchheit knows that the offenses will be on full display this evening.
“This is two teams with some really good talent front to back and really talented girls that that know how to put the ball in the back of the net. So, it’s gonna be an exciting game and it’s gonna be 80 minutes of a hard fought game, maybe even 100 minutes. This one might even go into overtime, so it should be a fun game to watch. ”
Tonight’s Class 1A Region 3 semifinal match between the Eagles and Panthers at Panorama High School is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
