The PCM baseball team picked up their first win of the 2023 season Tuesday night with a 4-3 victory over Nevada, while the Mustangs softball team fell in a three-hour, extra inning marathon against Grinnell 16-14.

Zeb Padgett put together an efficient outing on the mound for the PCM baseball squad to pick up the win over Nevada, throwing a complete seven-inning game on just 82 pitches. The senior allowed three earned runs on eight hits and two walks, while striking out five. Trigg Steenhoek led the Mustangs offensively in the win, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs, and an RBI. 

It took nine innings to determine a winner in the PCM softball game, but ultimately it was Grinnell who came out on top. The Mustangs scored all of their 14 runs in two innings, posting seven runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Addison Steenhoek and Riley Johannes powered the PCM offense, combining to go 4-for-8 with seven RBIs in the game and both contributed a home run. Rylee Parsons suffered the loss in the circle, making two appearances to total 7.1 innings pitch. The freshman nine runs (three earned) on seven hits and five walk while striking out seven. Tori Lindsay pitched 1.2 innings in relief, allowing seven runs (three earned) on three hits and four walk while picking up two strikeouts.

The PCM baseball team improved to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the Heart of Iowa Conference, while the softball team fell to 1-1 on the season. Both teams return to action tonight at Saydel, with the Mustangs softball game beginning at 7 p.m. and the baseball game starting shortly thereafter at 7:30 p.m.
