Warner Nabs Career Goal #100 in 10-0 Domination of Carlisle
What the #4 in 2A Pella girls soccer team hopes is a long postseason road began with domination as the Dutch defeated Carlisle 10-0 Tuesday in the regional semifinals. All-State striker Abby Warner continued her fantastic season, scoring six goals, which pushed her by the 100 career mark as a junior. Jillian Wright, Avary Hunsinger, and Lizzie Neumann also scored, with the state track and field medalist Neumann getting a pair, including the game-clincher late in the second half. Pella’s girls are 13-2 and host Fort Madison Thursday in the go-to-state game at Pella High School. The Bloodhounds upset previously ranked Burlington 3-2 in a penalty kick showdown.

Pella Softball Mounts Comeback on Opening Day; Baseball Falls at Carlisle
While the spring season pushes toward the end of the month, both summer sports teams have now been officially in action for the Dutch. Pella’s softball girls rallied from down 3-1 to win 4-3 against Colfax-Mingo, while the baseball team lost an early lead late against the Carlisle Wildcats. On the road, the Dutch bats scored two quick runs but were held in check for the next six frames, while defensive miscues cost Pella two runs in the bottom of the 6th. Caleb Stewart struck out five in five innings, with one earned run. The Pella baseball team falls to 3-3 and is next in action at Johnston Friday. At their opener, the Pella softball team fell behind early but clawed their way into the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning. A sterling double play started by pitcher Saige DeJong in the 7th sealed the first win of 2023 for the girls of summer. Pella is next at home vs. PCM Thursday.

Pella’s Top Doubles Duo Playing for State Title Today
For all of the incredible success of the Pella boys tennis team, a first place trophy has remained elusive. Today, longtime neighbors and friends could change that. Top-seeded Jack Briggs and Joshua Roozeboom are in the final four of the Class 1A doubles championship bracket. The #4 seed Myers and Ramker from Waverly-Shell Rock await the Dutch duo in the state semifinals. The winners will advance to take on either unseeded Baker and Skrade of Decorah or #2 seeded Curtiss and Martine of Wahlert. Pella’s other individual state qualifiers all fell in the winners bracket Tuesday and subsequent consolation matches. Those players, Cameron Rowe, Cashen Thompson, Beau Bush, and Ben Van Gorp, now await the team tournament next week.

Dutch Soccer Aiming for Third Consecutive State Bid
Pella’s boys soccer team has upset on their minds as the #12 Dutch travel to #2 Hoover in the Class 3A substate finals. It’s the first season with new classes, but the Dutch are dreaming of the final eight for the third consecutive season. Pella controlled #16 Cedar Rapids Washington 6-1 on Monday, while the 15-1 Huskies made quick work of West Marshall 6-0. Hoover’s lone loss has come to #1 in 2A Gilbert this season. The substate match begins at 7 p.m. this evening at Herbert Hoover High School in Des Moines.
