The Norwalk girls soccer team saw their season come to a close Thursday night in the Class 2A, Region 2 championship final. The 10th-ranked Warriors lost 3-0 to 2nd-ranked and defending state champion Dallas Center-Grimes, finishing their season with a 12-7 overall record.
The Fillies scored all three of their goals in the first half, starting with Kylie Knief’s perfectly-placed left-footer to the top-right corner of the net. Olivia Cyr scored off a corner kick scramble and Landry Glasgow added a breakaway. DC-G will take a 15-3 record into next week’s State Tournament in Des Moines.
Norwalk attempted just four shots on goal – one each by Pearl Brown, Karina Garcia, Braelyn Clark and Addison Burch. Freshman goalie Katie Liedtke had a busy night, making 14 saves.
The future remains bright for the Warriors, who reached the state semifinals each of the last two years. They will graduate two seniors off the 2023 roster in Bree Mauro and Zoey Davenport.
