The Indianola baseball team got back in the win column Friday night against Des Moines East in a 12-2 win, while the softball team fell to Southeast Polk on Strike Out Cancer Night 6-4.
The baseball team dominated the Scarlets from early on, scoring a run in the first only to see the Scarlets take a brief lead 2-1 in the top of the 2nd where they scored their only two runs, when Indianola tied the score in the bottom of the inning. It would be 10 unanswered from then on, scoring three more in the third, then exploding for six in the fifth inning, then adding another in the sixth to end the game early. The team improves to 5-4 on the season, and will play Carlisle on Monday.
The Indians softball team gave up three runs in the top of the first and had trouble recovering from the early deficit, despite getting two more back in the bottom of the inning to trail 3-2 after the first. They tied the score in the bottom of the 2nd with a run, but the Rams scored a run in each of the third, fifth, and sixth innings to take a commanding lead, while Indianola only got a run back in the seventh in their comeback attempt. They are now 3-1 to begin the season, and play a doubleheader against Ballard on Tuesday.
