The Norwalk Community School District has named Josef Sigrist as the Warriors’ next varsity girls head basketball coach, pending school board approval on June 6. Sigrist takes over the program from Jill Martin, who resigned her position as girls head basketball coach in early May.
According to norwalkwarriors.org, Sigrist brings 20 years of basketball coaching experience to the job, including 12 as a head coach. He was an assistant coach for the Norwalk boys basketball team this past season as the Warriors advanced to the State Tournament.
Currently teaching 6th grade science at Norwalk Middle School, Sigrist was the head coach of the West Des Moines Valley girls basketball team for 10 years from 2012-2022. He compiled a record of 177-59 at Valley, guiding the Tigers to 3 CIML conference titles, six trips to state, and a pair of Class 5A championships in 2017 and 2019. Sigrist’s overall head coaching record stands at 200 wins and 94 losses.
