As the weather continues to warm it is time to get the boats ready to use. Memorial Day is the kickoff for summer.

Department of Natural Resources Officer for Marion County, Ken Kenyon tells KNIA/KRLS News, “So as folks start bringing those boats out of storage this Spring, I’d like to remind them, get that safety equipment back in.”

Kenyon added what items need to be in the boat. Each boat needs a fire extinguisher, a sounding device – a whistle or horn, proper life jackets for everyone in the boat and proper sizes. 

People can have a good time on the lake if they are cautious and safe at the same time. He added that for those who drink, they need to monitor the consumption.
