The Indianola softball team exploded for 32 runs on 32 hits in a doubleheader sweep over Pella Christian Wednesday evening, winning game one 15-1 in four innings, and 17-6 in game two in six innings.

Pella Christian scored first in game one, as Emri Agre took advantage of a walk, an error, and two wild-pitches to put the Eagles up 1-0, but that would be all the offense of the Eagles. Indianola scored 10 runs in the bottom of the inning that included a Kiley Kindelspire two-run blast, an Izzie Benge double, a Kyra Robins RBI hit, and a Brynn Ortlund two-RBI double. The Eagles loaded the bases in the third but couldn’t take advantage, and Indianola got a home run from Katie Fosenberg in the third, and a bases-clearing double from Dana Blake to end the game early.

Game two saw the Eagles score a run in each of the first three innings, two separate RBI fielder’s choice by Emma Eekoff and an RBI double by Claire Braafhart, but it was unearned runs that put Indianola up 5-3 after the third, with Izzy Sloan getting a two-RBI single, and the Indians taking advantage of multiple PC errors. An RBI double by Jordyn Gripp and a wild pitch put the Indians up 7-3 and seemingly in full control, but a three-run home run by Eekhoff put the Eagles back within a run at 7-6. It was all Indianola after that, scoring multiple runs off of consecutive Eagles errors and another two-run blast from Kindelspire to lead 14-6 in the fifth, then ended the game early off of a two-run homer from Gripp.

Indians head coach Stacy Evans tells KNIA Sports the girls were swinging the bats and seeing the ball well, and the adjustments they made at the plate were a big step towards where they want to be.

Eagles head coach Todd Verwers tells KNIA Sports the Eagles are a young team, and seeing a team like Indianola early in the season can show them the type of competition level they need to rise to in order to find success later this summer.

Indianola improves to 5-1 and plays at Pella tomorrow, while Pella Christian falls to 4-4 and hosts Colfax-Mingo tonight.
