The final spring event for the powerhouse Pella programs was a 1-0 loss for the #4 girls soccer team to #1 Waverly-Shell Rock at the Class 2A semifinals, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS Friday.
The Dutch had several shots on goal, but were out attacked by the Go-Hawks. Despite that, neither team cracked the scoreboard in the first half. About seven minutes into the second half, Pella was called for a defensive foul in the box, which allowed Waverly to earn a penalty kick opportunity. All-State Selection Anna Stromberg just narrowly pushed a shot wide of All-State Goalkeeper Haley Van Houweling, and the one score was the difference.
Pella says farewell to seven seniors and caps another strong spring campaign for their eight teams.
