Head coach Brent Matthias has announced the hiring of Callie Dutton as a full-time assistant coach for the Simpson College softball team.

The program’s first full-time assistant coach in almost 25 years, Dutton is no stranger to the American Rivers Conference. She arrived to Dubuque as a sophomore in 2020 and earned the starting role at third base for the next three seasons, helping the Spartans win a share of the regular season conference title in 2022. Dutton hit .388 with three home runs and 25 RBIs that season while also receiving All-A-R-C Second Team honors.

“We are so excited for Callie to be joining the Simpson softball family,” said Matthias. “She brings an enthusiasm and excitement that will be extremely impactful to our program and also the knowledge of how to win in the American Rivers Conference.”

The Plainfield, Ill. native started her collegiate career at Beloit College in Wisconsin in 2019, winning freshman athlete of the year honors. After transferring, she obtained a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Dubuque in 2022. She spent the following fall as a graduate assistant with the Spartans before heading to Park University in Arizona, where she was a volunteer assistant for the 2023 season.
