The Indianola City Council discussed parking on the square during their work session Monday, which included multiple proposals regarding immediate and future plans. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News the council is working on putting up “business patron only” signs on the square, trying to keep parking spaces open in front of the downtown businesses.

“Really helping to create awareness that we need to keep these parking spaces open for our businesses and turning over. When one car parks there all day long, it really blocks a turnover of approximately 30 cars per day in that parking spot. That really has a negative impact on our businesses.”

Reeves also said he appreciates some of the efforts from Warren County regarding workers in the Warren County Justice Center, who created an incentive program for employees to park in the public lots, and he hopes that it will eventually become county policy.
