The Indianola softball and baseball teams host Grinnell tonight in a Little Hawkeye conference single game contest. The #5 Indianola softball team is riding high after a doubleheader sweep over #3 Norwalk on Monday, and faces a Grinnell team that is off to a 9-2 start to the season only dropping games to #1 ranked Dallas Center-Grimes.
The Indianola baseball team is back on track after a shaky stretch where they were swept in conference play by Pella Christian, but have now won five in a row including a sweep of Norwalk earlier this week. Head coach Jon Fitzpatrick said a big strength this year for the team has been the pitching staff, including closer Kaden Ritchie who leads the state with seven saves.
“We kind of stumbled into that role at the end of last season with Kaden. He closed out our last four games, the last one of the regular season and all three to take us to state, and if you have good enough stuff and the composure to do it at that time, we are going to turn it into a full-time gig.”
The baseball game will be heard live on 94.3 KNIA, with Andrew Swadner on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage begins at 7:15pm, with first pitch scheduled for 7:30.
