The Knoxville City Council met in regular session Monday, with Mayor Brian Hatch reading a proclamation declaring June 4th-10th as National Garden Week.
City Manager Heather Ussery tells KNIA/KRLS News, “It’s National Garden Week and the mayor read a proclamation and there were members of the Garden Club that were present to accept that proclamation and we appreciate all the work that they do in helping beautify locations throughout the community. Some of those highlighted as part of the proclamation were Brooks Garden and the Butterfly Garden.”
The board also approved cemetery software implementation proposals from Cemify. Cemify will digitalize the records at the cemetery for the cost of $21,450 and then a cost of $1,000 per year.
The board approved façade improvement grants for 119 and 121 S Third Street.
The city code was amended to permit female quail in the city limits. The limits are the same as chickens. The second and third considerations were waived.
The board approved the first consideration, and waived the second and third considerations to adopt an ordinance amending provisions pertaining to the plumbing code and mechanical and electrical codes in Knoxville. The approval keeps Knoxville in line with state codes.
A new property maintenance code was also approved, among other matters.
