A late surge of offense lifted the Norwalk softball team to a 12-2 non-conference win at Boone on Tuesday night. The Warrior baseball team, meanwhile, suffered their fourth extra-inning loss of the season at Class 3A 5th-ranked North Polk.

Bouncing back from Monday’s two defeats at the hands of Indianola, the Norwalk softball team blew open a 1-0 game with seven runs in the sixth and four in the seventh against Boone. The Class 4A 3rd-ranked Warriors tallied 14 hits, led by Zadie Wadle’s 4-for-4 night with a double. Lauren Black drove in five runs, going 2-for-3 with a double, while Jaylynn Brandt and Maddie Gullion were both 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Grace Dehmer added a double.

Olivia Dougherty pitched the first six innings and allowed just two hits and two unearned runs, walking one and striking out eight. Wadle struck out the side in a 1-2-3 seventh.

Norwalk, now 6-2 overall, travels to Dallas Center tonight for a 7:15 game against 4A top-ranked DC-G. The game will be streamed live on kniakrls.com (KNIA3), with pregame coverage starting around 7 p.m.

The Warrior baseball squad dropped to 3-10 overall following Tuesday’s 5-4, 10-inning loss at North Polk. They have now lost extra-inning games vs. Carlisle, Oskaloosa, Newton and North Polk in the last three weeks.

Norwalk held leads of 1-0 in the second inning, 2-1 in the fifth and 4-2 in the seventh, but the Comets rallied back each time.
