Craig Agan, Vice President of the Marion County Historical Society tells KNIA/KRLS News that, he, along with others on the committee, are working at putting on Pioneer Day at the Marion County Park Saturday.
Agan tells KNIA/KRLS News the fourth group of individuals and couples who were instrumental in the establishment and development of the Marion County Historical Society have been selected to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
The 2023 Hall of Fame inductees are Marye Goemaat, Edna F. Hem, Carolyn May, and James and Blanche Templeton. They will enter the Hall of Fame during the society’s annual Pioneer Day celebration on June 10. The inductees will be honored at 2:30 at the Historical Village on the grounds of the Marion County Park.
Agan talked about honoring the hall of fame members, “Well we’re very excited to honor this most recent group. You know we are just so proud. Four years ago we started this hall of fame to honor the people that have been so important in making this beautiful village out here as part of the county park.”
Including the Hall of Fame Class of 2023, a total of 19 are honored to date. Agan adds, all the inductees have played important roles for the purpose of educating and preserving the history of Marion County. Pioneer Day will be held from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Dan Carlson, President of the Marion County Historical Society, said the group is looking for more antique tractors for Pioneer Day Saturday. There will be a bake sale Saturday at the General Store from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Carlson tells KNIA/KRLS News, they are always looking for new members.
