The Norwalk softball team recorded a doubleheader sweep at Urbandale on Thursday, grinding out a 9-6 win in game one before taking the nightcap 14-2 in five innings.

The Warriors, who moved up one spot to second in the latest Class 4A state rankings, trailed the J-Hawks 6-2 after two innings of game one before fighting back. They tied the game in the fifth and moved ahead with a three-run sixth. 

Jaylynn Brandt paced Norwalk’s 11-hit attack by going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Lauren Black doubled, homered and drove in four runs while Nyah Hulbert was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored. Olivia Dougherty relieved Zadie Wadle in the pitching circle and worked the last 2 ⅔ innings for the win.

The Warriors took control of game two with a nine-run top of the first and finished with 14 runs on just seven hits while drawing 10 walks. Hulbert went 2-for-3 and scored three runs while Wadle had a double and two RBI. Maddie Gullion and Addi Downe drove in two runs as well. Dougherty pitched all five innings for the win, allowing five hits, walking two and striking out four.

Norwalk improved to 9-2 overall and will travel to Grinnell tonight for a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader at 5:30.
