Norwalk swept a softball doubleheader at Dowling Catholic on Tuesday night, winning 8-2 and 10-5. The Warrior baseball team took on Class 4A top-ranked Ankeny Centennial and lost 8-3.
Softball wins a pair
Norwalk, ranked 2nd in the Class 4A softball rankings, improved to 14-4 overall with their two wins at Dowling. Grace Dehmer and Lauren Black both homered in game one, Maddie Gullion was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored and Zadie Wadle added two singles. Gullion, Wadle and Dehmer all finished with two RBI. Wadle pitched all seven innings for the win, allowing nine hits and recording 10 strikeouts.
The Warriors led the nightcap just 2-1 after four innings, then erupted for eight runs in the top of the fifth. They finished with 13 hits, led by Nyah Hulbert going 3-for-3 with two RBI and Black 3-for-4 with two doubles and two driven in. Addi Downe and Jada Livingston both had two-hit games while Kaylee Cary slugged the team’s third home run of the night. Olivia Dougherty pitched a complete game seven-hitter, allowing two earned runs.
Baseball falls to No. 1
The Norwalk baseball team is 5-13 overall following Tuesday’s loss to the 18-1 Jaguars of Centennial. The Warriors collected four of their seven hits in a three-run sixth inning, including a DJ Harris double and singles from Cole Wardlow, Aidan Harder and Aidan Kane. Harris and Wardlow finished with two hits each and Gabe Johnson took the loss on the mound.
Doubleheaders tonight
Both Norwalk squads will host Pella today for varsity doubleheaders starting at 5:30 p.m. Game two of the baseball twin bill can be heard live on kniakrls.com (KNIA3). Softball’s game two will air on 92.1 KRLS.
