With the first stretch of Little Hawkeye Conference play in the books, the Pella Christian baseball and softball teams start the second round of league action tonight with doubleheaders at Grinnell.

Just over halfway through the season, the Eagles baseball team holds a record of 12-6 overall and 5-5 in the conference. Pella Christian’s league record has them in fifth place, a half-game behind the Tigers of Grinnell who are 5-4 in the Little Hawkeye. On May 22nd, Grinnell defeated the Eagles 10-0, using a sixth-run seventh inning to put the game away. The Tigers have had Pella Christian’s number in the Bound era, leading the series 20-17 since 2009. Grinnell has won the last seven meetings between the schools, with the Eagles’ last win coming in a 9-8 decision during the 2020 season.

In a loaded Little Hawkeye Conference softball field, Pella Christian sits in seventh place with a 6-14 overall record and a 2-8 mark in the league. The Class 3A #15 ranked Tigers are tied with Newton for fourth place with a conference record of 4-5. Before entering the rankings, Grinnell knocked off the Eagles 9-4 in the May matchup. The early season win gave the Tigers a three-game winning streak in the series, with Pella Christian’s last win coming with a 5-3 victory last June. Overall, the Eagles hold a 28-8 advantage over Grinnell in the all-time softball series in the Bound era.
