indianola-8

The Indianola baseball and softball teams are both at the top of the Little Hawkeye Conference after the first round robin, the softball team alone at the top and the baseball team in a three-way tie for first, and both teams put it on the line tonight at Pella Christian.

The softball team scored 32 runs in their doubleheader sweep over the Eagles in their first matchup earlier this month, and is looking to stay hot after putting up 33 runs against Newton in a pair of games on Wednesday. The Indians baseball team is 8-3 in conference play, however they were swept by the Eagles in the conference opening twin-bill, but recovered to win 10 of their last 11 contests. Head coach Jon Fitzpatrick tells KNIA Sports the Indians are at their best when they can score early and put pressure on the opponent.

“It’s important, we are just looking for consistency. We are still working on the lineup, knowing that especially in the first inning we can use small-ball and sometimes we don’t need it but I like the importance of scoring at least a run early and putting the pressure on.”

Both games will be broadcast on KNIA and KRLS. Softball on 92.1 KRLS with Tyler Crabb on the play-by-play, and baseball on 94.3 KNIA with Andrew Swadner. Both games will have pregame coverage beginning at approximately 7pm.
