Competing at the Cardinal Invitational Saturday, the Pella Christian softball team went 1-1 on the day, defeating New London 7-0 while falling in extra innings to the hosts 9-8.

Emma Eekhoff turned in dominant pitching performance for the Eagles in the win over New London, striking out eight in a no-hitter while allowing just two baserunners in the contest. Faith Kacmarynski went 2-for-3 in the win and posted two RBIs and her first home run of the season. Maddy Van Zee went 2-for-4 against the Tigers with two runs batted in, and Addison Bandstra also picked up an RBI in the game.

Against the host Comets, Pella Christian fell behind 7-3 after the opening three frames but rallied with four runs in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game. The 7-7 tie held until extra innings, when the Eagles plated a run in the top of the eighth inning, only for Cardinal to walk it off with two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Eekhoff and Brynn Roozeboom combined to go 6-for-10 at the plate against the Comets with four of the Eagles seven runs batted in. Amaia Agre added a 4-for-4 performance with an RBI, while Kacmarynski went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the loss. Van Zee took a no-decision in the circle, pitching seven innings and giving up seven unearned runs. Eekhoff took the loss in 0.2 innings of relief, allowing two unearned runs.

Pella Christian’s record now stands at 8-18 overall and they are back in action Monday night, as both the Eagles summer sports teams travel to Dallas Center-Grimes for Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheaders at 5:30 p.m.
