The Knoxville Softball Squad had a split day at Oskaloosa on Saturday as the Panthers fell to West Burlington, and defeated class 2A #5 Van Meter. In the first game, the Panthers and Falcons were scoreless through the first three innings before West Burlington struck for six runs in the 4th and won 7-1. Ciara Heffron took the loss, striking out seven, however Knoxville left eight runners on base and could not take advantage of five walks issued by Falcon’s pitching. Game two was a much better and different story as the Panthers knocked off Van Meter 5-3, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st, but the Bulldogs came back to tie it in the 2nd and 3rd innings. Knoxville would plate two more runs to get the final margin. Ashlyn Finarty went the distance, scattering six hits. Charyle Willis, Heffron, Hannah Dunkin. and Finarty had two hits each, with Finarty helping herself out driving in four runs including a home run. Knoxville is now 11-8 on the season and will travel to Cardinal on Monday.
