The Knoxville Police Department will hold its fifth Freedom 5k two weeks from today on Tuesday, July 4.

Proceeds from the event helps fund a scholarship for a Knoxville High School student that is interested in law enforcement. The registration fee for the event is $20 for participants 18 and older, and $15 for ages 17 and under. Registration is available until 7:45 a.m. on July 4th, with the 5k beginning shortly thereafter at 8 a.m.at the Knoxville Police Department’s office at 305 S. 3rd Street. The top 3 overall male and female finishers in the race will receive a medal. Police Chief Aaron Fuller says this event is something he and the department enjoy hosting for the community.

“It’s a great event. It’s something that we look forward to all year. It’s the police department’s way to hold an event on the 4th of July in connection with all the Thrive events that go on throughout the community on that day.”
