Several KNIA/KRLS area athletes and coaches were recognized by the Iowa Track and Field Coaches Association for their efforts in the spring of 2023.
Pella Boys Head Coach Brent Van Hauen was selected as the 3A Coach of the Year. Van Hauen has led Pella to four state championships in the past ten seasons. Pella Girls Coach Dak Rasmussen was a Class 3A girls At-Large honoree for leading the Dutch to a 3rd place team finish at the state meet, and Pella Christian Head Coach Keith Anderson earned Class 2A recognition for the Eagles’ 5th place finish in May.
The following local boys athletes earned All-State honors:
Chase Lauman, Pella – Elite All-State in 800 meters, Class 3A in 1600 meters, 3200 meters
Brandon Fischer, Pella – Elite All-State Discus
Maddux Borcherding-Johnson, Norwalk – Elite All-State Shot Put
Distance Medley Relay, Pella – Quinn Gruver, Cam Schulte, Trey Van Hauen, Chase Lauman – Class 3A
Trevor Veenstra, Pella Christian – Class 2A Discus
Shuttle Hurdle Relay, PCM – Gavin Fenton, Griffin Olson, Adrien Robbin, Gavin VanGorp – Class 2A
Logan Piper, Indianola – Class 4A 400 Meter Hurdles

Ciara Heffron, Knoxville – Elite All-State Discus
Bailey Vos, Pella Christian – Class 2A 400 Meter Dash
Jacie Trine, Pella – Class 2A 400 Meter Dash
Marissa Ferebee, Pella – Class 3A 1500 Meter Run
Sprint Medley Relay, Pella Christian – Amelia Boender, Anna DeBoef, Meredith Van Wyk, Bailey Vos – Class 2A
Kendall McDaniel, Indianola – Class 4A Shot Put
