The PCM softball team downed West Marshall for a 3-1 Heart of Iowa Conference victory Wednesday night, while the Mustangs baseball team fell to the Class 2A #8 ranked Trojans 11-1 in six innings.

Offense was hard to come by in the softball contest, as PCM and West Marshall played four scoreless frames before the Trojans plated a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Mustangs finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth, claiming their first lead with two runs, before added two more insurance runs and hanging on for the win in the seventh inning. Rylee Parsons kept West Marshall off balance all night, striking out 11 while allowing just one unearned run on four hits and two walks to grab the complete game win. Addison Steenhoek and RaeAnn Duinink led PCM’s offense with each recording a double and an RBI on the night. The Mustangs improved to 11-7 overall and 8-4 in the conference.

The PCM baseball team struggled against the ranked Trojans, striking out 16 times at the plate while recording just two baserunners in the contest. Nick Farver posted the lone hit on the night, while Zeb Padgett got hit by a pitch. Trenner VanDyke struck out six in the loss, giving up 11 runs on 14 hits. The Mustangs baseball squad fell to 11-11 overall and 8-3 in the league with the loss.

The PCM softball team is back at home tonight for a 7:30 p.m. non-conference game against Pella Christian, while the Mustangs baseball team is off tonight before hosting Sigourney on Friday.
