The local unemployment rate increased slightly in May, according to the latest data from Iowa Workforce Development.

In Marion County, the percentage is at 1.9%, a slight increase from 1.8% in April and this time last year. There are 19,320 employed residents and 370 individuals seeking work and receiving benefits.

In Warren County, the May percentage increased to 2.2% from 2% in April and this time last year. There are 29,300 employed residents and 700 individuals seeking work and receiving benefits.

Iowa’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained steady at 2.7% from April to May and is up from the 2.4% mark at this time last year. The May national unemployment rate increased to 3.7% from 3.4% last month and 3.6% in May of 2022.
