The Cities of Pella and Leighton are hosting Independence Day celebrations ahead of July 4th.

This week, the Pella City Council approved special event permits related to the festivities to be held on July 1st. This year’s Independence Day activities in Pella were moved to be held in conjunction with two military bands invited to perform on the Tulip Toren by American Legion Post 89. Commander David Robbins says the Iowa Veterans Band will start festivities on the Tulip Toren that afternoon at 2 p.m., followed by the 34th Army Band based out of Fairfield.

Leighton is hosting festivities on Friday, June 30th, as they have for several years. Full schedule:

The KNIA/KRLS Big Red Radio and Lil’ Big Red Radio will be participating in area 4th of July celebrations. Patriotic music will also air during fireworks festivities June 30th through July 4th on 94.3/95.3 KNIA and 92.1 KRLS, from 9 to 11 p.m. each evening.
