The Pella softball team bounced back in game two of a varsity doubleheader against Oskaloosa Friday after falling in game one 6-4, winning the nightcap 7-3, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS. The Dutch won a season series over Oskaloosa for the first time since 2013 with the final victory.

In game two, Pella scored in the first four innings, which gave them enough cushion to hang on despite committing five errors, including three in a row that loaded the bases — which was followed by a double play. Ava Curry was 6-for-8 in the double header with three runs batted in — including a solo home run. Lucy Carlson added five runs batted in over the two games. Kyara Riggen scattered five hits and gave up no earned runs in the complete game victory in the circle.

Pella’s baseball team made short work of Oskaloosa in game one, winning 10-0 in six innings, before going to nine innings in the finale to get a 4-3 walk-off win. The Dutch racked up 10 hits, including a 3-for-4 performance from Kellan Shull, and two hits each from Tate Weesner and Joe Bokhoven. Caleb Stewart gave up just five baserunners in six innings of work on the mound, striking out seven. The Dutch gave up two runs in the top of the 7th of game two, which ultimately forced extra innings. The Dutch scored four runs with just four hits — walking 11 times, and overcame four defensive errors. Weesner earned the win with two perfect innings of relief.

Pella’s softball team moves to 9-17 overall and 4-13 against league foes, while the baseball team is up to 17-10 overall and 11-6 in the conference. The Dutch are off until they travel to Pella Christian on Monday; the baseball game is live on the KRLS3 stream, while the softball clash is on 92.1 KRLS.
