indianola-8

The Indianola baseball and softball teams came up short in a road trip to Dallas Center-Grimes Monday evening, baseball falling 5-4 and softball 12-7 as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The #9 Indians baseball team fell behind 5-0 through the first four innings as #8 DCG protected their home field, before the offense plated four runs in the fifth to get back in the game that included an RBI double by Brady Blake. The Indians never scored again, and took the loss despite out-hitting the Mustangs 9-5, only striking out twice, and only walking two batters, but four errors would seal the game in DCG’s favor. The Indians fall to 22-7 overall and 14-4 in conference play.

The #6 Indianola softball team had the lead multiple times in their matchup against the #4 Mustangs, as they lead 1-0 after the first on a Jordyn Gripp RBI single, only to see the Mustangs score twice in the bottom half of the inning to lead 2-1. The Indians then exploded in the second inning for five runs, getting a two-RBI hit from Kiley Kindelspire, taking advantage of a Mustang error, and scoring two runs on a wild pitch to lead 6-2. The Mustangs got two back in the third, and Indianola scored an insurance run in the fourth off another Kindelspire hit, but then disaster struck in the bottom of the inning. Three Indianola errors combined with four DCG hits led to six runs for the Mustangs as they took the lead, and the last 11 batters for the Indians were shut down to preserve the win.

Head coach Stacy Evans tells KNIA Sports it was back and forth, and the Mustangs are a tough team to beat on the road.

“They had a big inning, we had a big inning. They can hit the ball. Our defense may have had some fault in that and we put them on the basepaths, but they are always a good hitting club. It is hard to sneak a win out of here.”

Kindelspire went 3-4 with three runs batted in. The Indians fall to 20-9 overall and 13-5 in the conference, and join the baseball team hosting Oskaloosa tomorrow.
