The Knoxville Summer Squads split their games at Albia on Monday night with the baseball squad taking a 7-5 win over Albia, sweeping the season series, and softball was roughed up 10-0 in a game that ended after five innings. The softball Panthers were held to four hits. Knoxville also committed three errors that contributed to the loss. Ciara Heffron, Brittany Bacorn, Ashlyn Finarty, and Addy Dunkin got a single hit each for Knoxville. Finarty also took the loss going 2 2/3 innings. Lincoln Norris went 6 2/3 to get the win on the mound, while Beau Leisure launched a 2 run homer. The class 3A #6 Baseball Panthers remained unbeaten in the South Central Conference. One area that has been a very pleasant surprise for Coach Turner Devore is the deeper than first thought pitching staff.
Devore: “Pitching staff has been really good, there’s a couple of kids that we haven’t pitched but Koby Higginbotham has been really good, so has Lincoln Norris, and Trenton Kingery has pitched well out of the bullpen. I didn’t really know how deep we would be at the pitching staff but the kids have done a really good job.”
Softball heads just a few miles north on Highway 14 to PCM tonight, while baseball travels to Grinnell. The softball game can be heard live on 95.3 KNIA.
