It was not a good night for either of the Knoxville Summer Sports Squads as the softball Panthers fell 7-0 to PCM heard live on 95.3 and the class 3A #6 baseball squad fell to Grinnell 3-2. In the softball game, the Panthers left nine runners on base which is a recurring theme of the season. Meanwhile, PCM got the scoring underway on a Tori Lindsay two run shot in the first inning and that was all the Mustangs would need. They did plate two more in the 3rd and three in the 4th to cap the scoring. Coach Shaun Hudnut told KNIA/KRLS Sports, after several years of frustration, it was good to knock off Knoxville.
Hudnut: “It was a good game. I told them that it was a lot of years of frustration. We haven’t always played the best against Knoxville and at times were a bit overmatched, but we did a good job tonight.”
Knoxville got six hits, led by Emma Dunkin, who went 2/3. Coach Carla Smith told KNIA/KRLS Sports it was the same thing as it has been in the last half of the season, not making adjustments at the plate.
Smith: “Did a good job of getting runners on, but we didn’t do a good job of getting them around. We were popping the ball up and not making adjustments.”
Rylee Parsons got the win scattering six hits, issuing one walk, and striking out two. Charlye Willis took the loss for Knoxville, pitching 3 2/3 innings and walking one. Meanwhile, in Grinnell, the Knoxville Baseball Squad fell to Grinnell 3-2. The Panthers were shut down offensively held to just two hits. Trenton Kingery pitched six innings and gave up three earned runs. Both Knoxville Squads are off tonight but back in action Thursday hosting Clarke. Game two of the baseball double header will be live on 95.3 KNIA.
