The Pella Christian softball team couldn’t pull off the upset Tuesday night at Class 5A #3 ranked Ankeny, falling 10-1.
The ranked Hawks struck first in the battle of the birds with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the Eagles got a run back in the top of the second on a Claire Westerkamp solo home run. Ankeny responded by scoring a combined four runs in the bottom of the second and third innings to take a 7-1 lead, before adding an additional three runs in the sixth to drop Pella Christian to 10-25 on the summer. Emma Eekhoff took the complete game loss in the circle, striking out three while giving up six earned runs on seven hits and five walks. Amaia Agre, Faith Kacmarynski, and Chloe Snyder recorded three of the Eagles four hits in the game, adding to Westerkamp’s homer.
The Pella Christian softball team will rejoin the baseball team to wrap up the regular season and Little Hawkeye Conference action tonight with 5:30 p.m. home doubleheaders against Norwalk. Game two of the softball twinbill can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS, while the second game between the Eagles and Warriors baseball squads will be broadcast on the KNIA3 stream at KNIAKRLS.com.
