Indianola baseball coach is up to 401 career wins after the Indianola baseball team swept Little Hawkeye Conference rival Oskaloosa 7-2 and 8-2 with game two heard live on 94.3 KNIA, while the Indianola softball team also swept winning 4-1 and 14-4.

The baseball team fell behind 2-1 going into the third inning of game one, only scoring off of a Bennett Brueck RBI, but scored three runs in each of the third and fourth innings to get a big lead and cruise to a victory. Daniel Kuebler got the win on the mound, while Brueck had three runs batted in.

Game two had Indianola lead in the first with a Brueck RBI single, then added runs in the second and third from another Brueck RBI and a Cooper Belt RBI single. Indianola then ran away with the contest in the fourth scoring three runs, with yet another Brueck RBI in addition to an Andrew DeWall RBI hit. Brady Blake and Luke Rockhold each had an RBI double in the sixth for insurance, while Luke Byers picked up the win on the mound.

Head coach Jon Fitzpatrick tells KNIA Sports the longevity of his coaching career at Martensdale-St. Mary’s and now Indianola is the significant part, and it was fun to celebrate with not only the athletes but friends and family who attended.

Brueck ended the day with six runs batted in. Indianola is now 24-8 on the season and 16-4 in the LHC, and wrap up conference play tomorrow hosting Newton.

*interesting stat from game two, Oskaloosa athlete Kam Criss was 0-0 in four plate appearances, registering four HBP at-bats.

The Indianola softball team dominated from start to finish in both games to get the season sweep over Osky. Indianola scored two runs in the first on a Dana Blake two-RBI single, Osky scored a run in the fourth to cut the lead to one, but Jordyn Gripp drove in two more with a single in the sixth for insurance. Izzy Sloan picked up the win in the circle.

Indianola jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Osky had any sort of answer in game two with a pair of sacrifice fly’s from Gripp and Katie Fosenberg, and a Tessa Gripp single. After Osky scored a third and fourth innings, Indianola scored six in the fourth to blow the game open with two-RBI hits from Kiley Kindelspire and Izzie Benge, and Indianola scored four more in the fifth to end the game early what included a Blake two-RBI single.

Indianola is now 22-10 on the season, and host Newton tonight.
