The Class 4A #5 ranked Norwalk softball team maintained their tie for first place in the Little Hawkeye Conference standings Wednesday night with a 7-2 and 12-6 sweep over Pella Christian, with the second game heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

Game one of the twinbill was all Warriors, as they scored seven unanswered runs before the Eagles added two late runs in the 7-2 decision. Highlighting Norwalk’s game one win was a five-run second inning. Lauren Black batted in three of the Warriors seven runs in game one, while Amaia Agre posted Pella Christian’s lone RBI in the contest. Zadie Wadle recorded 12 strikeouts in six innings in the circle to pick up the win for Norwalk, while Maddy Van Zee took the loss for Pella Christian.

After both teams recorded a run in the first inning and a scoreless second frame, the Warriors’ steady offensive attack led them to the game two win. Norwalk scored at least one run in each of the final five innings, totaling 11 runs, to outdo the Eagles’ five runs in the fourth through sixth innings. Black recorded a home run and two RBIs in the second game for the Warriors, and Nyah Hulbert and Maddie Gullion added a combined four RBIs in the win. For Pella Christian, Brynn Roozeboom hit a two-run homer en route to a three RBI second game, while Emri Agre and Faith Kacmarynski each posted two hits in the loss. Norwalk’s Olivia Dougherty threw five innings for the Warriors and struck out 10 to record the win, while Emma Eekhoff took the game two loss for the Eagles.

Norwalk improved to 24-7 overall on the season and 17-3 in the conference. The Warriors are tied atop the league standings with Class 4A #4 ranked Dallas Center-Grimes with one game remaining in conference play. Norwalk will try to claim at least a share of the regular season conference title tonight with a 7 p.m. game at Pella that can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

Pella Christian ends the regular season with a 10-27 record overall and 3-18 conference mark, and they begin their postseason journey on Friday night at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
