The Class 2A #10 ranked Pleasantville baseball team wrapped up the regular season Thursday night with a 11-1 win over Interstate 35 to win a share of the West Central Conference title, while the Trojans softball team fell to the 2A #5 ranked Roadrunners 10-0.
It took a while for the Pleasantville baseball team to get the bats going, before ultimately being crowned co-conference champions. The Trojans and Interstate 35 played four scoreless innings of baseball, before Pleasantville erupted for seven runs top of the fifth. The Roadrunners finally got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but not before the Trojans added on an additional four runs in the top of the frame to finish the regular season at 27-6 overall. Braylon Bingham and Tyler Gibson each recorded two hits in the win, while Brayden Kennedy led the team in RBIs with three. Caylor Jones struck out five across 5.2 innings of work on the mound, while allowing just one run and one hit to record the victory.
The Pleasantville softball team couldn’t string together any offense against a ranked Interstate 35 squad, dropping their record to 10-20 overall on the summer. Ella Clark and Ashlyn McConnell provided the Trojans with their best scoring opportunity of the night, getting hits late in the fifth inning, but both runners would be stranded on the base paths.
The Pleasantville softball team begins postseason play tonight, hosting Central Decatur in the first round of Class 2A Region 4 at 7 p.m. The Trojans baseball team is off until the Class 2A District 7 Quarterfinals on Wednesday, when they’ll host the winner of Saturday’s game between PCM and Colfax-Mingo.
