Work on the alleys of the Downtown Square Reconstruction Project in Indianola will be delayed to next year for the west alley, after construction delays on the north and south alleys pushed back the timeline. City of Indianola Community and Economic Development Director Charlie Dissell tells KNIA News the amount of utilities in the area that includes electric, gas, and others, has caused the timeline to be pushed as they need to be moved, and now the west alley won’t begin construction until next spring.
“These alley projects are proving to take about 5-6 months per alley, and right now that brings us to the Thanksgiving/Christmas timeline, which everybody knows we get into more winter weather at that standpoint. We had to make a decision if we wanted to continue this year and try to get it done through the fall and winter months, or if we wanted to wait until spring of 2024 to get started.”
