The Knoxville Softball Squad ended the season with a loss to Chariton on Friday night 6-2. The Panthers got the initial lead in the 1st inning, but only put up a run in the 3rd for the rest of the game. Knoxville was limited to five hits while Chariton rapped out 11. Four errors also proved costly for Knoxville. The Panthers got home runs from Ciara Heffron and Brittany Bacorn while Ashlyn Finarty led with two hits. Ciara Heffron took the loss, striking out four. Coach Carla Smith tells KNIA/KRLS with a few players dealing with injuries, several of the players have been playing out of position.
Smith: “It’s a tough situation to be in. They’ve done a good job fighting through adversity. I can’t get made if they make an error playing a position they haven’t played in a long time, so it makes for a tough situation all around.”
Knoxville closes the regular season at 14-13 and 9-5 in the South Central Conference. The Panthers will have nearly a week to rest and maybe get a few players back from injury with their first round class 4A regional game against Ft. Madison on Thursday.
