One day after clinching a share of the Little Hawkeye Conference title, the Norwalk softball team closed out a successful week by winning two out of three games at Friday’s Dallas Center-Grimes Classic.

Following a two-hour rain delay, the Class 4A fifth-ranked Warriors lost their first game of the day 5-0 vs. third-ranked Fort Dodge. They responded with an impressive 4-0 win over No. 2 North Polk, then shut out Urbandale 2-0 and improved to 27-8 on the season.

Senior Zadie Wadle had a monster game against North Polk, pitching a four-hit shutout with eight strikeouts while going 3-for-4 with two RBI at the plate. Addi Downe was 2-for-3 with an RBI triple, Nyah Hulbert singled and tripled and Jaylynn Brandt added an RBI single and scored two runs.

Norwalk needed just four hits to beat Urbandale, including a solo home run by Lauren Black and Hulbert’s RBI single. Olivia Dougherty earned the win, pitching 6 ⅔ scoreless innings before Wadle came on to record the final out.

The Warriors were unable to get the bats going against Fort Dodge pitcher Lucy Porter, who shut them out on two hits – a Maddie Gullion double and a single by Brandt. Dougherty took the loss, allowing just two earned runs on seven hits and four walks.

Norwalk continues its challenging non-conference schedule on Monday, hosting Class 5A top-ranked Ankeny Centennial at 7:15 p.m.
