With work on the west alley on the Indianola Downtown Square Reconstruction Project delayed until spring of 2024, the ongoing construction will have lasted for five years, going back to the demolition of the previous Warren County Courthouse in 2019. Community and Economic Development Director Charlie Dissell tells KNIA News the delay is not ideal, but the feedback from business and property owners about the delay has been mostly positive.

“I think people are understanding that construction projects are difficult, especially in areas that are hundreds of years old and we are working through those as best as we can. I think everyone is ready for construction to be done, that is not a secret. It’s been a long construction duration down here on the square, we’ve been doing this since May of 2019 in total between the city and county projects. So everybody is ready to be done, but making sure we are doing it the right way and that we lessen the impact and I think everybody respects that we are trying to do that.”
