A What Cheer woman died in a crash Tuesday evening near Melcher-Dallas. The Iowa State Patrol reports 34-year-old Whitney Marie Brown was traveling southbound on Highway S45 in a Chevolet Equinox driven by Tamara Goodliffe of Altoona at around 5 p.m. The driver was approaching a set of s-curves when she lost control and veered off of the road. The vehicle went airborne at one point and struck a tree on the other side — hitting near the driver-side rear passenger door, where Brown died on impact. Brown was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the Iowa State Patrol. The others inside the vehicle received minor injuries. Several local agencies assisted in the crash that shut down parts of S45 late Tuesday.
