It was not a thing of beauty but the 7th ranked Knoxville Baseball Squad advanced to the class 3A substate on Friday with a 5-2 win over Oskaloosa heard live on 95.3 KNIA. The Indians actually struck first in their half of the 1st inning with two hits off of Knoxville Ace Beau Leisure, but that was all Leisure would allow the rest of the way as he settled down and struck out 14 batters enroute to the win. Knoxville scored two runs in the 2nd inning error to tie the game, then scored two more in the 3rd on a wild pitch to make it 4-2. A walk issued to Dakota Ramsey that brought in Trenton Kingery made the final tally. Coach Turner Devore said while not thrilled with the hitting, he was happy to have the chance to play on Monday.

Devore: “We were pretty locked in in BP and I thought things would translate. But you get a little thrown off by the lefty. I’m happy to have advanced and get to play on Monday.”

Leisure allowed two runs on five hits and walked just one with his 14 Ks. Knoxville is now 33-3 on the season and will host Pella in Monday’s substate semi-final, a game you can hear on both KNIA and KRLS.
