The Knoxville Softball Squad took #12 Burlington to the limit on Saturday in the class 4A Regional semi-final, only to be turned back by the Greyhounds 3-2 as heard live on kniakrls.com KRLS3. Both starting pitchers, Ashlyn Finarty for Knoxville and Saydee Plummer of Burlington were holding each team at bay with the Greyhounds getting a run in the 2nd and holding a 1-0 until they plated two more in the 5th, which would prove big later in the game. Knoxville had its chances to score throughout the game, but unlike Thursday’s first round game, could not get that timely hit. That was until the 7th inning, when the Panthers had bases loaded after scoring two runs off a Brittany Bacorn two RBI single and three errors that had Greyhound fans squirming. But Burlington got the final out. Bacorn had two hits while Charlye Willis had three. Finarty took the loss in her final game as a Panther allowing three runs, scattering five hits and striking out three in five innings. Knoxville’s other senior Emma Dunkin made a huge play in the 4th to save a couple of runs snagging a line drive. Knoxville finishes the season 15-14.
