The new development at Veterans Park on the site of the old Knoxville VA campus is progressing towards completion. According to Knoxville Mayor Brian Hatch, some of the initial work on the area has been finished, with more phases set to begin or be completed by the fall.
“You can drive by and see the splash pad area has been poured, with sidewalks around it. Next to that, we have our phase one development of the housing units there. There’s 34 lots that will go online for people to purchase and build. And we should start seeing roads being paved here really soon. So, that should be coming up and completed. We could see housing being built maybe this fall even, so that’s super exciting. Yeah, it’s a wonderful time.”
Hatch adds that he and city staff have enjoyed helping further grow Knoxville and are pleased with how the project has developed.
“You’re there because you love your community. You want to help. You know we’re not in this for the money. But you’re there, because you love your community, you want to see it get better and to actually see that happen is really satisfying. It’s just such a nice feeling to see people come together to make Knoxville great. And I think we’re seeing that now and like I said, it’s just such a great feeling.”
